Post chemo week 8 status

What a week! I feel as though I have been vomiting all week, although I managed to avoid it on Friday morning, I have sacrificed my morning cup of tea every other day since Monday. I vomited twice this morning for good measure.

It was so bad that I phoned the palliative care nurse to ask for advice, and she recommended two courses of action. One was to take an extra Metoclopramide (anti-sickness) pill last thing at night, and the other was to make sure that I waited until after I had eaten before taking the painkillers, especially the Diclofenac. Neither of these courses of action have made much difference, except that on Friday evening I forgot to take my painkillers after dinner and suffered enormously during the night, as I was unable to sleep due to the pain in my back. It was really quite worrying, as I thought my situation had taken a sudden turn for the worse. Fortunately I remembered at 4:30AM that I had forgotten (!) my painkillers. I took them straight away, and was able to get four hours sleep that night. At the very least this episode tells me that I still need my painkillers.

I’ve extended the nurse’s advice and doubled the Metoclopramide dose. It’s now the same as it was at its peak. That has stopped me from feeling queasy during the day, and I hope it will prevent me from vomiting tomorrow morning. We shall see.

I have an appointment with the consultant this week, and I’ve asked to see the palliative care consultant too. Let’s hope we can get this cleared up.

I’m sorry you’re having a such a rough time again. Hopefully, between them, the two consultants can provide some suggestions of action to aleviate it somewhat.

Yes, well, these things happen. I certainly hope they can do something, as it is getting rather tiresome.

Oh how I sympathise about forgetting which medicine you’ve taken! Also just now I can feel for you when you are groggy or weak. That’s because I’ve been lying on the couch all morning with a bottle (hot water bottle, that is) because I’ve felt nauseous and queasy for the past couple of days.
Wendy and Roger were just here on their annual check in before returning to Dublin where they were to rejoin their cruise liner at its half way point round the world!
They flew from Newquay to Dublin, only to find that the ship had never docked or dropped anchor and they were left behind. I believe they now have to fly to Boston to resume their luxury life. Wouldn’t you think someone would have noticed they were not aboard?
Stephen Jenner is over from Australia and it was lovely to see him. Anna has a second baby, just five weeks old, in addition to Georgiana. Baby 2 is Eliza. I had fun driving various members of the family to the surgery, which enjoys a spectacular view of the sea.
Unfortunately the period of lovely weather did not continue once they arrived.
Anyhow, back to the two people who are most in my thoughts – that is you, Christopher, and Gillian. I’m keeping up with your adventures and ups and downs and am very proud of you.
When’s the next instalment coming out? Lots of love, s

I’m struggling to know what to say other than I’m really sorry you feel so sick. Hoping the consultants can come up with something that’ll help x
