Post chemo week 6 update

The past week seems to have been dominated by back-care and food, sometimes with friends.

On Tuesday, despite a slightly dodgy start, I had a great time meeting friends in Ludlow, although my back paid for the fun during the whole of that evening. But it was definitely worth it. I’ve found it harder and harder recently to get out and meet people, so I’m glad I didn’t have to pass up that chance to do so.

A couple of days later a present arrived in the post — Real Food by Nigel Slater — and we seem to have cooked nothing but recipes from the book all week. It has been a real feast. Thank you, Gill. We’re both very grateful.

Yesterday we were due to have gone to London for a dance, which I was really looking forward to, but my back was too unreliable to make the trip worthwhile. We heard reports today that we missed a good party, which is a shame. Deepest apologies once again to Tom and Katie for our failing to make it.

I’ve taken life very easy today, with only the simplest of cooking, and have managed to avoid the refuge of the sofa until the evening. But I’m here now, blogging, and were it not for the subject my mind would be very handily taken off the state of my back. Time for a good book, I think…

I just wanted to say how much I appreciate your blog and wish you a safe and happy recovery. x

Thank you, Elly, that is very kind of you. I’m afraid, however, that eventual recovery is extremely unlikely for anyone with my sort of cancer (late stage junctional oesophageal cancer), but I do hope for as long and as happy a life as possible.

    Hi there
Chris – just to say feel better soon or I will send in the heavies! So, Tom and Katie eh? Is this Tom CRUISE and Katie HOLMES? Wowee you do move in lofty circles. Love to you both and remember to laugh as much as poss.

Thanks for lovely card, picture almost like my cat when I brush her ha ha. It was great to catch up and we’d both like to see you during the summer if you are near the big smoke (London, not me!)

Cruise and Holmes? No fear! This is a much nicer pair than that, I assure you.

As for laughing as much as possible, we got the laughing dog out on Saturday morning, and he really raised our moods from a low point. Thank you very much for him.

We’ll certainly be in touch when we’re next in London. BTW, how is the new kitchen?

Kitchen going pretty good, keep having fight with dishwasher cos instructions been translated from turkish and make no sense, so have devised method whereby we just fill it randomly and then select auto! Still better that than sodding washing up. When I got back Sunday, Andy had put one door up wrong but other than that it’s looking good, all in now. Funny thing about fitting kitchens (or building works in general) is that it all goes really quick at the start and then seems to stop cos it’s all ‘behind the scene’ stuff. Good job I’ve gotta handy andy man lol!

pain..I dunno..I’m still confused about all these.. Why am I telling this to you? You’re a total stranger..
But..I feel okay writing to you..or maybe it’s this crazy LV community that introduced you to me.
You’re someone who comes up my mind whenever I have those pensieve moments…
Thank you Sir! have a good day..
